Meet the Bands of Rock Allegiance...
New Jersey, it's once again time for Rock Alligance to take over Camden! As always, the festival will feature amazing names, new and old. Metal giants Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, and Mastodon will no doubt dominate the stage, and the timeless legend that is Rob Zombie is guaranteed to seize the crowd. While we're all excited to see rock's elite play out the night, don't you dare discredit the guys further down on the line-up. Continue reading to learn more about a few of the festival's hottest rising bands.
BITERS - In a era of hand holders and a cushioned culture, it's good to know some bands aren't afraid to keep it crude. Of course, a razor sharp attitude is exactly what I'd expect from Atlanta natives. Biters, fronted by Tuk Smith, one of the most charismatic singers in today's scene, have a sexy, psychedelic sound we all need in our lives. Following the loss of the iconic Tom Petty, it's good to know there's still a few bands around able to capture his vision.
Back in May, Biters released their second full length album The Future Ain't What It Used To Be. Combined with a series of EPs and singles, they have a rich discography filled with genuine rock 'n' roll. Whether you're an old soul or restless youth, I promise they've got a song for you. Check out their vibrant video for "Stone Cold Love" below!
JOYOUS WOLF - Another band reigniting the passion of classic rock, Joyous Wolf features some of the most powerful vocals I've heard in modern music. If you've ever wondered a vocal hybrid of Elvis and Danny Worsnop would sound like, enter frontman Nick Reese. Combine with subtly sensual baselines and the grind of a vintage guitar, you've got the recipe for a new age classic.
Dig around Youtube and you'll find their EP Daisy. However, on music platforms such as ITunes and Spotify, you'll only be able to find their newest single, "Mountain Man". Just a week ago they dropped their music video for the single! Check it out below!
BLACK MAP - These San Fran natives were born out of three musicians that found themselves bored while their respective bands were on hiatus. Members of Dredg, Far, and Trophy Fire joined forces to create an artistic flow and vivid melodies. Their songs have a real sharp punch, of which I'd like to attribute to their frontman's unique voice. Of course, a band isn't just one member. From the drummer to guitarists, they have such a tight sound.
Towards the beginning of the year, they released their second full length record, In Droves. Perhaps their most successful release to date, the album is loaded with tracks that paint a beautiful visual in your mind. At the end of July, they premiered a satisfyingly monochrome video for "Ruin". Watch it below!
HE IS LEGEND - If there was ever a band I could describe as having a sound that creeps up on you and shocks you, it'd be He Is Legend. When the first few notes of the guitar catch you, you're expecting the same screamo shit that clutters every local venue these days. Then, vocalist Schuylar Croom completely shatters your preconceived notions on the genre. These guys have been around a while now, and their experience definitely shines through in their music.
The North Carolina natives channeled their inner 90s rockers to create their newest record, Few. The album features many charming and colorful tracks. Around six months ago, they debuted their picturesque, vivid video for "Air Raid". Watch it below!
While we only have time to talk about four bands, Rock Allegiance's lineup features many more remarkable artists. The festival will also have several great non-music related aspects, including all American grub provided by local venders, and craft beer from small distilleries around the U.S. and Canada. Personally, I also find it a huge plus that the event is taking place in the fall. It's a lot easier to enjoy music when you're not sweating your ass off!
Regardless, if you are attending, make sure to stay hydrated and safe! If you're on the fence about going, what are you waiting for? There's still a few days left to score tickets if you're quick! Check out Rock Allegiance's website for more info on ticketing and the venue. RockAllegiance.com
